Submission Guidelines

Our submission guidelines are always evolving as we strive to reflect industry standards.

Short story submissions must be between 1500 and 6000 words. Failure to adhere to the word limit may result in your submission getting rejected.

Send your submission as an attachment to Make sure you put “submission” somewhere in the subject line, and in the body of the email disclose the title and byline for the story. Please remove your name from the attached story itself.

Science fiction, fantasy, and horror stories are encouraged, but any genre will be eligible.

We have no arbitrary limits for things like violence and sexual content, but stories that indulge in these things without serving a narrative purpose may be rejected at our discretion.

The stories will be judged and ranked in this event, and the top three will receive prizes. Stories outside of the top three will still be published so long as a legitimate effort is put forward by the author.

We also accept and publish poems.

As this is a university event, we only accept submissions from UTA students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
